Gonda Train Accident: What is the railway’s accident-protecting armor system? Know why it did not work in the Gonda accident

A train accident has happened in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh today i.e. on Thursday. According to the information, the coaches of Dibrugarh Express going from Chandigarh to Dibrugarh have derailed. According to the information received by ABP News so far, 10 to 12 coaches have derailed. But the question is why the accident prevention Kavach system did not work during this accident. Know when the Railway Kavach system works.

Railway Accident

Let us tell you that the number of rail accidents has increased in the country in the last few months. Apart from the Dibrugarh Express accident in Gonda, a train accident took place in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal on the morning of 17 June, a month ago. Now the question is why the Kavach system of Indian Railways did not work during these accidents.

What is Kavach System

Let us tell you that Kavach system is a system, which prevents rail accidents. But earlier the Kavach system failed to prevent the train accident in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, and now this Kavach system has failed in Dibrugarh Express in Gonda. Know how this Kavach system works and why it could not prevent the recent train accident. Let’s find out.

What is Kavach System?

Research Design and Standard Organization created an automatic train protection system for Indian Railways to prevent rail accidents. Which was named Kavach System. Work on this Kavach system started in the year 2012. Its first trial was done in the year 2016. Planning is being done to install it all over India.

Kavach system is a set of electronic devices. Which prevents train accidents. In this, radio frequency identification devices are installed at a distance of one kilometer on the train, railway track, railway signal system and every station. Everything in the system works through ultra high radio frequency.

How does Kavach work?

If a driver in a train breaks a signal and moves ahead, then the Kavach system gets activated automatically. Immediately after the Kavach system gets activated, it alerts the train pilot. After this, the Kavach system automatically takes control of the train’s brakes. During this, if the Kavach system comes to know that another train is coming on the track in front, then it automatically stops the first train. If we explain it to you in simple words, then if two trains are coming on any one track of Indian Railways at the same time, then the Kavach system gets activated and stops both the trains from colliding with each other.

At present, Kavach system has not been installed on many railway routes of India. The Kavach system is not installed on the route of Jalpaiguri as well. According to the information given by the government, the Kavach system has currently been installed on 1465 km of route and 139 engines in South Central Railway.
